Find your Strength and ACT on it!

For months in a row, I had friends talking about what are my strengths and everyone was talking encoded. At some point I had to decided if I will just let myself annoyed that I’m ignorant or just wait for this hype to pass. The hype wouldn’t pass, so I had to give in and find “my strengths”.

So, what am I talking about? What is Strengths Finder?

“The Clifton StrengthsFinder is a Web-based assessment of normal personality from the perspective of Positive Psychology…. Over a secure connection, the Clifton StrengthsFinder presents 177 items to you. Each item consists of a pair of potential self-descriptors. The descriptors are placed as if anchoring polar ends of a continuum. You are then asked to choose the descriptor that best describes you, and to identify the extent to which that chosen option is descriptive of you. ”

So, basically, you take a test online and at the end you get a list of words that describe you.

To stir you up, I’ll tell you what I am. I’m Activator! This person likes to see things happening and get to work on the plan, right after he heard the strategy. He doesn’t like sitting around too long to discuss details, but get to action. By being an Activator, you believe that best way to learn is by actually doing it. You see ideas transformed into actions and you like seeing results!

Next, I’m Communication! This is a no-brainer, but it has more to it than just a good communicator. This person feels the need to bring ideas to life, to put some energy into them. Hungry for information and for knowledge, as it keeps them alive. People love listening to you!

This one is not very obvious in me, as I am considered to be a bit rough and direct, but always honest. Maybe, too much for my peers’ taste! So, the third one is Empathy! This person is sensitive to the feelings and emotions of those around him and is able to see through their eyes and have their point of view. This is the person who is able to express in words of those around who can’t.

My forth strength is Learner! These people love to learn! It’s just in them. You don’t have to be a nerd to have this in you, but you just enjoy learning new things constantly.  The thing is that they enjoy more the process, than the content or the final result. Their purpose is not to become experts, but to mearn the respect of professors.

Last major characteristic is Strategic! This really can’t be learned, it’s a way of thinking. You can for example see it in the people who are able to find a way through a mess and tell you what the solution is and guide everyone and not go crazy if the problem gets complicated. Clear? If not, than ask the strategic guys! 🙂 OK, so they are able to clear out the issue, bring a solution, explain it and make it clear for everyone.

These are just brief descriptions of the features. Of course a person doesn’t only have 5 main characteristics, but he has a top 5 that are predominant. So, curious on what are your top 5? Check out the site, take the test and find out immediately how can you describe yourself in 5 words.

The cool part is this helps you understand yourself better, not that you don’t know yourself, but you can comprehend better what would be a more suitable job for you and actually see why do you react the way you do and why do you communicate the way you do. So, click away!

Ah! and let me know what you find out!

Thank you, The Well for this beautiful insight!

Movember and why is becoming so famous

A couple of weeks ago, I met Toby who explained to me and some friends of mine about Movember. At first we all had surprised looks and probably thought that no one from our group will do it. Three weeks after, my husband has a funny looking ‘stache, that I think attracts some intrigued stares.

But what is Movember?

“The Mo, slang for moustache, and November come together each year for Movember.

Movember challenges men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health by growing a moustache. The rules are simple, start Movember 1st  clean shaven and then grow a moustache for the entire month.  The moustache becomes the ribbon for men’s health, the means by which awareness and funds are raised for cancers that affect men. Much like the commitment to run or walk for charity, the men of Movember commit to growing a moustache for 30 days.”

You got the idea, right? But I thought that this would be just guys trying to look ridiculous for one month. Or just finally having an excuse to grow a moustache, as they always wanted to do so, but never had a reason 🙂 But (again) when we met them, half way through the month, we got to know some passionate bunch of guys, who believe in this cause and want to do their best to go around proudly with their ‘stache and hopefully gather some money.

The money will be used for research for prostate cancer and has already had a great impact.

Here’s a video with a testimonial

‘Sup world!

As a social media manager, that’s what I do all day: read, reseach, write, publish. But when I get home, game over. There are so many interesting pieces of info I come across on a daily basis and I feel they are going to waste. I want to aggregate them and maybe others will find them useful, fun or interesting as well. No patterns, no unique subject, just ideas, themes and whatever draws my attention.

So, ‘sup world!! Let the story begin!
